After 26yrs. he's not guilty Empty After 26yrs. he's not guilty

For nearly 26 years the affidavit was sealed in an envelope and stord in a locked fireproof box, tucked away with the lawyer's passport and will. It stayed there year after year and decade after decade. In January 1982 an innocent man was arrested for killing a security guard at a McDonald's restaurant. Two men were arrested one was innocent, but witnessess couldn't tell them apart because they did resemble each other. The lawyers on the case as well as the other man that had committed the crime knew that Alton Logan was innocent, but no one came forth until now. The man by the name of Andrew Wilson that killed the security guard is now dead. He died in prison. Now the evidence has been discovered by the lawyers who represented the case back in 1982. Now after 26 years an innocent man will now be free. If I were him I would be highly upset because all the time he knew he was innocent. The worst thing about it is that it was on file all the time. pale

This is a shame. But it probably goes on more often than people really know about. To think that this man has set in prison all those years when he could have been enjoying life, possibly having a family and a well paying job. Now what does he have? Sure he is going to be set free, but that is not exactly being free. He will probably have trouble getting a job because of his record that he should not even have. It will probably be a full time job just trying to get things to some sort of normal. I think if there are any of those people still alive that knew about this and did not come forward that they need to have some of their freedom taken away so they can get just a little taste of what this man has gone through for the last 26 years of his life. I hope he can get some kind of settlement from somewhere for all that time when he could have been working. Years that he can never replace.

This kind of thing happens more times than people realize but mistakes can be made everyone’s not perfect. You would think that modern forensics is perfect but they make mistakes too. As far as forensics go computers don’t do all the work like you see on CSI, it just doesn’t happen like that. Its human error, I know it’s sad and that guy will probably a law suit and he will probably get a huge settlement. I know that doesn’t take away the 26 years that he spent in prison but at least he will get something back. I just hope that that guy doesn’t become so bitter and angry that he actually commits a crime.

it is really unfortunate that this could happen. the fact that there was a confession by the man that really did it. i think there should be an alteration to our laws or something that should require this information to be exposed, but obviously there wouldnt be any court dates if lawyers had to give up confessions. it is just frustrating to think that this can happen so often, yet sometimes there is just nothing we can do. unfortunately there are mistakes in identification. i actually saw something on nightline or 20/20 or something about how all races have a problem identifing 'criminals' of other races. it was pretty astounding to see 'witnesses' misidentify a criminal. it is difficult to think even 'eye witnesses' aren't as reliable as we may have thought.

That’s pretty awful to think about. I couldn’t imagine wasting 26 years of my life on someone else’s mistake, especially when I knew the truth. I know that people can make mistakes but it makes me wonder about how heavily eyewitness testimony is weighed when they can make mistakes like in this case. I’d hate to be the guy who kind of looks like another guy and have to go to jail because the witnesses aren’t 100% sure which is which. I don’t understand how they could gather enough evidence against the wrong guy aside from the unsure eyewitnesses. You’d think it would raise some eyebrows. Hopefully this guy receives some kind of retribution.
