Body of Knowledge: Fit office

This video article was about a special piece of equipment that allows workers to get exercise in the office. It’s a treadmill that’s actually hooked up to a table, so instead of having a chair the workers are walking on the treadmill. This was first started the mayo clinic. The treadmill only goes about a mile an hour. The issue here is that can the workers really concentrate to the same extent of being on this treadmill. Some experts say that it’s a good idea that it will get their workers in better shape, others think it’s a bad idea. I think it might actually keep workers in better shape and more productive but then again who would want to walk on a treadmill 8 hours a day 5 days a week? That’s not even considering overtime. I think it’s a good idea to try to keep your workers in shape but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to have a treadmill fixed up to a table. Everyone knows that working takes a toll on your mind but this might seem like it will take a toll on your body. I think it would be a better idea to actually let the employees stop working for a little while and let them get up and walk, because I am totally against the whole idea of having employees staying in a chair 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

Ok so that is officially really cool. I work at a dealership in the office and when I’m there all I do is sit on my ass, excuse me, butt. And the other girls, granted they have been there a lot longer than I have, but they are, not to be mean or anything, a little on the heavy side. That I believe is due to the fact that the only real exercise they get is walking outside to smoke or use the bathroom or out to their cars to go home. As much as this would be a major problem trying to get these treadmills in our offices, it looks like it would greatly reduce stress at work and even obesity. I would buy one for my future office!

I definitely think it would be a good thing for employers to provide their workers with a way to get exercise throughout the day, but having employees walk on a treadmill while working all through their shift?! That would be a little much in my opinion. I consider myself pretty in shape and there’s no way I would want to go to work everyday and be on a treadmill for hours. I’m all for the idea of employers giving their workers the opportunity during the day to get exercise, but just slowly walking all day long? And you can’t MAKE someone work out. It’s an awesome idea to create an opportunity for employees to get in shape. However I think for the most part the only people who will take that chance are the people who are already in shape. But either way it’s a good idea to someway promote being healthy.

I think that it is a good Idea to keep the workers in a good shape, but I think there is other ways to keep them in a good shape. I totally agree that it is insane for workers to sit and concentrate on their own work and be walking on the treadmill. There is so many other ways to keep them in a good shape such as a day at the gym or make a room at work that has work out machines like treadmills and other for the workers to refresh their brain while they be at work.

I think the initial idea of keeping workers (and people in general) in shape is a good idea, but as mentioned, yeah, who would want to be on a treadmill for 8 hours a day 5 days a week and still have to work at the same time. How would anyone be able to function after that work day? Plus, there actually is a thing called over exercising (anorexia athletica) believe it or not, if there isn’t enough calorie intake and too much exercise. And with the looks of this workout regiment it could eventually come to that. And granted there are many people who could use something like this, but how efficient would the work place actually be, and how many could you actually get to work there.
Me personally, I like the idea of being able to get a workout at work (kill two birds with one stone) and get paid while doing it, but I would not be able to concentrate and get my job done, while walking on a treadmill. I just don’t feel I would be very efficient at all.
